Exam Results

Many of our pupils start taking their GCSE examinations in year 9, some as early as year 8. We carefully select subjects where we know the pupils can succeed. This has many benefits: developing confidence & exam technique early, avoiding the cram of taking all their exams in yr11 & enabling them to gain far more examination successes. It's not uncommon for pupils to gain 9 or 10 GCSE's when they leave in year 11. It does come with a problem for us, not the pupil in terms of our League Table results, as this only measures the results in years 10-11

We believe for a mixed ability School, these results are stunning.

To be fair, some of the subjects were only taken by one or two candidates, some through tutorials.
We are always looking for the best way to educate the individual child!
On the other hand, Science results are from 59 subject entries in 2013 because of a large number of early takers.

These are very different results from the league table scores.
The reason is that the League tables survey those in the 15-16 age group only.

In consequence, if Jim gains a 'B' in Year 9 but moves to Leeds we lose his result.  Also, more commonly, if
we take in someone who is struggling who repeats Year 10 or Year 11 or takes a restricted number of GCSE's then our league table percentages suffer significantly.
Most parents don't move their children to us in Year 10 or 11 if they are achieving well in their current School.
