Which walk is for you? MCS Night Navigation Challenge

Templar Way (Sponsored walk to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance)
- Date: 2nd Sun. in June
- Organisers: Magdalen Court School
- Distance: 13k to 28k (8 to 18 miles)
Easy flat or downhill terrain, several route length options.
- Team size: (must include an adult)
- Minimum age: 7yrs
- Course:
The route follows as closely as possible, the line of the Haytor Granite Tramway, the Stover Canal and the Teign Estuary. It covers a whole range of terrain from open moorland through quiet woodland, field tracks and country lanes to estuary foreshore. It is very well marked throughout the entire distance by the Templar Way logo apart from the first section on Haytor Down. However, on this section it is possible to follow the line of the tramway

Exmoor Challenge
- Date: 1st Sat. in May
- Organisers: The Exmoor Challenge is organised by Exmoor Rotary Club.
- Distance: 16 or 18 miles
- Team size: 4
- Minimum age 10yrs, there are 2 routes:
- Junior 25k (16 Miles) for under 14yr olds
- Senior 29k (18 Miles) for under 17yr olds
- Course: Starts and finishes at Dulverton Middle School. The course is unmarked and teams have to follow written instructions and use basic map-reading and compass skills. The course involves walking over a variety of terrain including open moorland, although checkpoints are marked along the way. The walk calls for teamwork, responsibility and endurance.

Brecon Beacons Weekend
- 2nd weekend in Dec.
- Organisers: MCS
- Distance: 4 day walks between 5 & 15k
- Participants: limited to those with some walking experience; Exmoor challenge, Ten Tors, D of E etc
- We stay in a rather splendid farm house.
- Leave first thing Fri. & return late Mon.
Abbots Way Challenge
Ten Tors
- Date: 2nd weekend in May
- Organisers: Army
- Distance: 35, 45 & 55 Miles
- Team size: 6
- Minimum age: 14 for 35 Miles
- Course: 56, 72 & 88 kilometers (35,45,55 miles)
56k North & Just past Princetown, 45 & 55 progressively whole moor.

Managers Ten Tors
- Date: 2nd weekend in October (dark mornings & nights)
- Organisers: Local school, changes every few years
- Distance: 35 Miles
- Team size: 2-8
An opportunity for parents, managers & helpers to experience the Ten Tors event themselves.
- Minimum age: 18
- Course: 56 kilometers (35 miles)
Scotland Weekend
- 3rd weekend in Jun.
- Depart Thu. after school return Lunchtime Tue. by sleeper train.
- Walk Fri. Sat. Sun. & Mon.
- Staying in 2 Youth Hostels & one nights wild camp in the hills.
- Distances: 12 to 20k
- Participants: limited to those with hill walking & camping experiance; (Exmoor challenge), Ten Tors, D of E etc
really intended as an extension to those who have completed Ten Tors & D of E.
