Summer Camp
We run a camping trip each year for our junior pupils, usually this is to to a local campsite at Dawlish Warren, but we also go to Escot Education Centre, just outside Ottery St Mary. It's so successful we split the stay & run a camp for the older pupils to.
Purpose
It is aimed at those pupils who have not undertaken a school residential trip, & as such is intended to help them make the first steps in developing their self reliance & independence.
Residential trips & courses give the pupil an opportunity to discover elements about themselves which in a normal day environment they don’t have the same opportunity to experience. Such skills as interpersonal skills with their peers & adults, how their behaviour & attitudes affect other people & working as part of a team.
It must be realised that many of these skills are life long skills, things we hone & improve right the way through our life. Education is a life long process & this camp is a FUN time for these pupils to explore & learn.
Some pupils will have been before with us, & that is fine, each camp brings its own little challenges & opportunities & each pupil is treading along their own individual learning path.
