Performing Arts
In KS4 students are given the option of studying for a BTEC Level 1 Introductory Performing Arts Award. After the initial success in 20/21 of offering students the Entry Level qualification and having a 100% pass rate it was decided that it would be beneficial to offer the Level 1 as it's equivalent to a GCSE grades 1-3. The course is designed to give students a good grounding to progress onto the BTEC National courses in a related subject at further education establishment if they wish to do so but equally doesn't put our students under too much pressure that a Level 2 and above qualification may do.
It is a skills-based qualification designed to help students develop the personal and social skills needed to help them to progress to independent living, future employment or further vocational study as well giving them an opportunity to take part in practical activities and understand the inner workings of the performing arts industry. The school uses its links with local theatre, especially the Northcott Theatre to give students a realistic insight into the career opportunities available to them as well as the use of a highly experienced theatre practitioner with over eleven years experience in the performing arts industry who is able to impart hands on knowledge and skills to the students through a series of workshops and theoretical lessons based on his extensive experience of working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
